There was a delay in court Wednesday for the man accused of shooting and killing a man over snack cakes. It happened two weeks ago, on Aug. 16, at a Clark gas station near Teutonia and Roosevelt.

William Pinkin, 56, is accused of shooting Isaiah Allen, 29, in the head after stealing a box of Little Debbie's snack cakes.

Pinkin, charged with first-degree intentional homicide, was supposed to have his preliminary hearing. But without an attorney, the hearing couldn't be held. The court assigned a new date of Sept. 8 instead.

"I'm extremely frustrated," said Charmian Easter, Allen's grandmother.

Allen's family left the courthouse disappointed.

"I wanted to see him in court. I wanted to see him face to face to see what he did so he could understand that there are people here for Isaiah," said Easter.

According to a criminal complaint, Pinkin was working as a security guard at the gas station. Investigators say when Allen walked out of the store with snack cakes he did not pay for, Pinkin shot him.

"He shouldn't have died over anything. It didn't matter the cost, he shouldn't have lost his life over that," said Natalie Easter, Allen's mother.

Allen's family and supporters have been protesting outside of the gas station for the past two weeks, demanding justice for Allen. They want the store shut down for good.

"I've been out there every single day. I sleep out there. So I will when I leave here, that's where I'll be going back," said Natalie Easter.

Pinkin is due back in court for a hearing on Friday, Sept. 8.
